Edgar Mueller Super Artist
Image024

Great Crevase Edgar Mueller.  Hard work: Together with up to five assistants, Mueller painted all day long from sunrise to sunset.
The picture appeared on the East Pier in Dun Laoghaire , Ireland , as part of the town's Festival of World Cultures.

He spent five days, working 12 hours a day, to create the 250 square metre image of the crevasse, which, viewed from the correct angle, appears to be 3D. He then persuaded passers-by to complete the illusion by pretending the gaping hole was real.
'I wanted to play with positives and negatives to encourage people to think twice about everything they see,' he said.  'It was a very scary scene, but when people saw it they had great fun playing on it and pretending to fall into the earth.  'I like to think that later, when they returned home, they might reflect more on what a frightening scenario it was and say, "Wow, that was actually pretty scary."

Mueller, who has previously painted a giant waterfall in Canada , said he was inspired by the British 'Pavement  Picasso' Julian Beever, whose dramatic but more gentle 3D street images have featured in the Daily Mail.
This guy is amazing no matter how you look at it.

unbelievable huge, private backyard backing to greenbelt

You could build whatever you wanted in this backyard. It's huge. End of street cul-de-sac, exceedingly private for this close in town. Ask me about this one, it's an opportunity for anybody that wants some space to do large scale art (seriously, someone from Ish should buy this) in their backyard or have a private retreat.

a message about home ownership, the market, and a plug

If you've been following my posts on Ian's blog or livejournal, something I have not said is how Sarah and I have been able to work with the problems we have had with Ian financially - and how home equity has played a part in it.  There is a message here for some of you, so bear with me.

We were not financially prepared for $100,000 in medical expenses for Ian; that is what we had insurance for, and when our insurer was shut down by the state we were stuck.  We did not have cash on hand, which is what we needed, in order to have his surgery.  We also were under significant time pressure to have his operation, and we could not have our credit cards cut us a $45,000 check for the durable medical equipment he needed in order to get this done.

So how did we get through that situation?

A few things helped.  1st, we had home equity - we were able to write a check out of our home equity line for a substantial portion of the equipment cost, and our family and few close friends (you know who you are - and thank you, again!) contributed additional cash to help us pay for the equipment and surgery.  The rest we put on my business line of credit, which we are still paying down, and we're managing financially to get every thing paid off.  We also got the hospital and all of the medical providers to either discount or write off some of the cost due to our situation.

If we didn't have the home equity, it is doubtful that we would have had the operation on time - we would have been forced to spend more time fundraising, delaying his surgery and his speech development - every month of speech delay at that age is equivalent to 6 months of additional speech therapy and may incur other developmental delays, so the fact that we owned our home allowed us to get his surgery as early as we did, at 18 months.

So - why is this important to you?

I've been in the real estate industry for 8 years, and I work with people that have been in it since the early 90s.  I also talk regularly with people that have been top performers in the industry since the 70s and 80s, and who coach and consult with others in the industry.  They are all saying the same thing - that it is an unprecendented time to buy.  They are saying things like "I've never seen this in my lifetime, and don't expect to again".  That mortgage rates and home prices are very low, and the government will hand you up to $8,000 to help you buy a home.

What I'm saying here, and it is to a few people that are reading - if you don't own, now is the time.  We won't see rates and prices like this again for a good long while, and waiting until next year will mean that you will pay more for the same thing - plus if you qualify for the tax credit, there is only until Nov 30th to claim it.  The reason this is important is that having a home will enable you to do things financially in the future that you may need to do - like what we had to do for Ian.  This isn't just a "good idea" - it can be the difference between being able to do something important when you want to and not.

Now - for a plug.  Carlos Reina and I have teamed up as real estate agents, and are working with a highly respected and established brokerage in Austin, The Goodlife team. The principal of the team, Krisstina Wise, has been nationally recognized for many years as a top agent and business professional in real estate, and I hold her leadership in very high esteem.  She has a fantastic group of agents and administrative staff to deliver uncommon service to clients, and it is part of why I chose to work with and for her in building her technology systems and to be an agent in her brokerage.  If you would like to talk about your situation, and whether buying is the right thing for you, Carlos and I would be honored to get your call and to help you, and if you did work with us and the good life team, we would do our absolute best to insure your satisfaction.  You can reach us at 512-892-9473.  If you are reading this you are our friends, and that is what is most important to us.

Now - regardless of whether you call us or not - if you don't own, call somebody.  Start the process now.  Get prequalified, find out what you can afford - there is lots of help for 1st timers in addition to the tax credit, and you would be surprised what is out there that you could buy and end up paying about the same as rent.   Patty Sylvana and Garreth Wilcox are other great agents in the local community that would be happy to help as well, and I have respect for how they have both taken care of their clients and friends.  It is simply too important not to get going on this, and if you wait to own you will end up paying more money later, and have less equity and less financial power to take care of your concerns.

Besides all that: buying and owning a home can be really fun - you get to paint whatever colors you want, put a big piece of art in the yard, and let the neighbors know that you are keeping austin as weird as you can manage.  Don't miss getting in on it!
